The ORA 16th Annual General Meeting was held on May 26-28, 2017 at the JW Marriott The Rosseau in beautiful Musoka, Ontario. With 185 registrants, 19 booths and representation from our ORA membership, AHPA members and Industry sponsors, the event was an overall success!
This year’s theme was “Putting the evidence in Evidence Based Medicine: from inflammatory to crystal to mechanical rheumatic diseases.”
Our keynote speaker was internationally renowned Dr. Roy Fleischmann, who delivered a powerful presentation titled “Jakinibs in RA” at the Saturday plenary session.
Back by popular demand, Suzanne McGurn of the Ontario Public Drug Program provided an informative update on Pharmacare in Ontario.
Friday evening included poster presentations from ORA and AHPA members. Meeting registrants also had an opportunity to take in a variety of workshops throughout the weekend, each with insightful content.
New this year was the inclusion of rheumatology residents at the AGM. Arriving early on Friday to participate in lectures that afternoon, all residents were then invited to the AGM, and finally, the OSCEs on Sunday afternoon. It was a pleasure getting to know our up and coming colleagues, and we hope to continue this tradition in the future.
This year’s recipient of the ORA Rheumatologist of the Year is Dr. Bill Bensen. A special committee has been established to develop a memorial scholarship that will reflect what was important to Bill – a team-based approach to Models of Care.
Mark your calendars for May 25-27, 2018 and join us at next year’s ORA AGM – we hope to see you there!
